Privacy Policy

The privacy of your personal information is very important to us. As such, Cognitive Code, Inc. (“Cognitive Code”) presents this statement to give our users a clear understanding of how we operate our Web site, Web-based services and mobile app services (collectively, the “Services”) and how we handle your personal information. Cognitive Code may modify this Privacy Policy at any time by updating the Privacy Policy itself or by providing notice on the Services. What Information We Collect

What Information We Collect

When you use one of the Services, we will not collect personal information about you unless you provide us that information voluntarily. By “personal information,” we mean data that is unique to an individual, such as a name, address, e-mail address, telephone number or credit card related information. If a Cognitive Code Service or feature requires registration, we may require you to provide personal information in order to activate your account. We may also collect, in anonymous form, search queries, click through information and location information when you use our SILVIA Search Service, but we can not and do not associate this data with any of your personal information.

How We Use Information

Because we consider any personal information you give us as confidential, Cognitive Code will not disclose to third parties any identifying personal information gathered from you, unless (1) we tell you how your personal information will be used and you give Cognitive Code permission to share this personal information or (2) Cognitive Code is required to disclose such personal information by any applicable law or legal process (like a subpoena or court order).

Cognitive Code does use personal information collected from you in aggregate form only. In other words, we combine the personal information with data collected from other individuals to produce anonymous, aggregated statistical information. We collect and use demographic information in order to improve the products and services we offer, to conduct market research, to generate profiles and reports, and to improve the overall experience of our site. We also may share this anonymous, aggregated information — which does not identify individuals — with partners, advertisers or other third parties.

In addition, we may use your personal information to contact you directly with questions about your account, to inform you about new features or offerings from Cognitive Code, to send you reminders, or to ask you for your feedback on how we can improve our products and services.

We also use the information we collect from you to provide tailored content. One of the optional features of at least one of our Services is to suggest videos or other content to you based on your selections in a given session. If you use the SILVIA mobile app, the SILVIA mobile app will utilize information stored on a mobile device on which the SILVIA Search mobile app is loaded to generate personalized search results.

Security

Cognitive Code utilizes generally-accepted security measures (such as encryption) to protect against the misuse or unauthorized disclosure of any personal information you submit to us. However, like other Internet sites, we cannot guarantee that it is completely secure from people who might attempt to evade security measures or intercept transmissions over the Internet.

Cookies

Cookies are pieces of data stored on your computer’s hard drive by a Web site. Cookies are an industry standard and used by most major Web sites to improve their services.

Cognitive Code uses cookies for user convenience. The cookie will tell our system certain information so you do not have to fill in the same information each time you visit us. The Services can only read the cookies placed on your computer by us. We cannot access any information on your hard drive placed there by you or any other source through the use of these cookies.

The cookie feature can be turned off on your browser. For more information on turning off the cookie feature, consult your browser “Help” section. If you choose to turn off cookies, you can still access all areas of the Service. However, you might have to “refuse” a cookie each time you encounter one searching the Services.

IP Addresses

An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer by your Internet service provider whenever you access the Internet. This number may be the same each time you access the Internet or it may change. Like other Internet sites, Cognitive Code uses IP addresses to collect aggregate information about numbers of visitors and site usage. Cognitive Code reserves the right to use IP addresses to identify individuals if (1) Cognitive Code is required to disclose such information by any applicable law or legal process (like a subpoena or court order); or (2) Cognitive Code is required to do so to protect the safety of the public or other users of the Service, to enforce the Terms of Use, or otherwise to protect our rights.
Surveys and Polls
If you respond to any surveys or polls on our site, we may ask you for demographic information such as your gender or age. This information is collected only as anonymous, aggregated information and is used for statistical purposes.

Children

Remember that, as with all Web sites, it is impossible to verify another person’s identity, and users may, in fact, be younger or older than they make themselves appear to be on one of the Services. As Cognitive Code does not monitor or supervise the content on the Services, we recommend that a parent, teacher or guardian supervise the activities of any user under the age of 18.

This privacy policy applies only as long as you remain on one of the Services. Once you leave the Services to visit another site, we have no control over your privacy or security issues even if you reached the other site by clicking on a link within a Service. Cognitive Code assumes no responsibility or liability for the availability or content of these outside sites, including any products, services or materials which may be available from such sites. Therefore, any concerns a user may have regarding any other site should be directed to the relevant site administrator or webmaster.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may change from time to time. You should check back on a regular basis for changes to this policy which will be posted on this page. Any new policy will be identified with a more recent date at the top of the policy.
